India has traditionally had a long history of entrepreneurship. Across the country we find businesses, small, medium and large, from across communities, thriving over generations.
The largest number among them are in retail or retail linked trading; many others have small manufacturing units that have gone on and on. Some of course broke away and grew to become giants.
However, entrepreneurship, till recently, came from members of families that had a long tradition in businesses.
New wave of entrepreneurship
But there’s a new flavour of entrepreneurship in the air in India.
Young professionals are getting restless and willing to take chances. They are willing to let go of the safety of good jobs and take on the more difficult path of a startup; and these are people often coming from families that never ran a business before!
These new age entrepreneurs are coming up with ideas for different kinds of products and business models, almost by the day; and many of these have an element of IT enablement in them.
Many are re inventing existing products or processes to deliver a new way of doing things.
It is this enthusiasm for innovation, change and growth that will drive the Indian economy hereon.
